On the Road Again

I just returned from my trip to Des Moines with Adam, Buckley, and Hank. I feel as though I never need to eat again. All we do in Iowa is sit around and eat. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty great at first. But it's not too long until eventually you can't take any more rich food. Perhaps if I had some willpower, I would know when to stop drizzling Gorgonzola sauce on everything. Then, I might not have more "casual vomit" experiences. Yum. But it was a good time, nonetheless. We were able to cross our visit with our cousin Morgan, who is just a hoot. She couldn't get enough of the impressions Adam and I would do of our mom. It's uncanny really. But what do you expect after 23 years of watching her, 23 years of honing our craft. Some people think it's odd that Adam and I will drive for about 7-8 hours on day 1, stay all of day 2, then leave on the morning of day 3. However, over the years, we have realized that this is the maximum amount of time we can spend in Iowa without going completely crazy. A second full day would simply end in a combination of hostility and painful boredom the likes of which have not been seen before. But don't get me wrong, it's definitely worth the trip, and not simply because we're pampered for those few hours. It's a good time to get to see our aunts and cousins, not to mention Grandmom. However, I don't like to hear the talk of how good it is we were able to visit this summer because she probably won't make it to Christmas. And I had to hold back the tears when Grandmom was asking me if I could remember the times when she was more active and stronger, because she didn't want my last memories of her to her sitting in her chair all day. I promised her that they wouldn't be, and I told her that my fondest memories were the afternoons that I would spend at her house after Kindergarten. But, enough of the seriousness.

So, Adam and I returned last night, watched The Devil Wears Prada (teaching me once again that I should become in-house counsel for a fashion corporation--that is the right message, isn't it?), and went to bed without dinner, since we were still full from the eating extravaganza. Tonight I'm hauling my stuff over to my apartment with Julie and Jackie, then packing up for my trip to Memphis and Mississippi, when I get to see Jordan!

Enter Summer

Well, I turned in the Law Review competition yesterday, so now my summer can begin.
I was awakened this morning by Adam saying "Wakey wakey, eggs and bac-ey!" And there were! And pancakes too! With cinnamon! Yum! Now what to do with my time? I've been keeping busy with reading, watching movies, and playing with the "nephews" -- Hank and Buckley. I'm already a little bored, and it's wonderful. I forgot about the feeling of having nothing on my mind, nothing to do. Simply wonderful. Damn, it's really boring. Can't wait to start work on June 4th!

"No More Teachers' Dirty Looks "

I think the majority opinion is that this phrase refers to looks of disdain, not looks of the "come hither" or undressing variety. Anyway. . .
Well, I'm out of my Cambridge apartment for the summer and currently living with my brother until the new lease starts for the summer! The last few days in town were a bit of a whirlwind, what with rapidly finishing up finals, celebrating with food and booze (both starting around noon), and of course, watching The Little Mermaid. What more is there to life? I wouldn't know because right now it's almost midnight and I'm in the basement, reading cases and law review articles as I work on the Harvard Law Review competition. Fun times, no? Man, something this brutal should be over quickly--much like the ill-fated game of dodgeball with the Drama Society team. We never saw it coming.

Even though I have been hard at work (sort of), there has also been a good deal of fun: getting to see my Julie and Jackie (and others), watching movies, eating, you name it! Even though I'm sad to be away from all of all the wonderful people I've met at Harvard, and I even miss some of them, it is refreshing to be in a new/old locale for a change of pace and scenery.

Twas the Night before Finals:

Well, this is it. My last night as a 1L. Tomorrow morning, after my Contracts exam, I will have finished my first year at HLS! I can't believe it's been an entire year. Or at least 9 months. It's really like a pregnancy. Except without the weight-gain, hormones, irritability, and shoving something through my crotch. Hmmm... actually, that does sound a lot like law school, once you think about it. Where was I? Oh right. I trudged through the grueling 8 hour Property take-home (While the landlord has an interest . . . so does the tenant!), I finally wrote my 30 pages for Entertainment Law, and I completed the take home portion of Contracts. All that's left is this pesky in-class exam.

Time to put away the outlines and hornbook. I think I've crammed enough into my head for one night, let alone one year.

A Man of No Class:

Done with classes of my 1L year! It really doesn't seem like it has been a full year here at HLS. And I'm not yet in a celebratory mood because of those pesky finals that I still have left. Oh right, and that paper.

So what am I doing to avoid studying? Well, I'm glad you asked!

As fall producers, Ariel and I have been busy assembling a great creative team for the Drama Society's fall show. Now all that's left is picking the show. (OK, technically, there's a LOT left, I just meant all that's left before I leave). But of course, while doing that, I'm just reminded of all the great 3Ls that are graduating... sadness...

Also, I've been busy on the board game circuit. While I'm quite badass at Mystery Date (that's right, I went to the Prom and a picnic!), my Life skills suck thoroughly. The first game I won (i.e. had the most money--what is this game teaching children?), but had no children, so it was a bittersweet victory. The second game, I had to cheat to have children. Hey! Don't judge me. I'm just making the game more realistic. You think you can adopt children by playing the rules? Not likely. Ok, and I cheated to get a $100,000 pension. Again, trying to reflect real life. And I was president. And won the Nobel peace prize. How did I NOT win that game?

Moral of the story: Life sucks.
